The launch theme connects relevant formal results, validation of human and AI assessment, selective prediction and risk, educational and social measurement, and informative negative findings. It is an editorial focus, not a statement that any manuscript has been accepted. External submissions and work critically examining the proposed distinctions are welcome and receive the same assessment standards.
